Authentic??

Ebun and I blagged our way into the preview of "Catch a Fire" at the South African High Commission,Trafalgar Square. It was worth it. I had only been outside in the 80s protesting apartheid, not eating Cape apples or bananas, not banking with Barclays :foot soldier in the international support to the struggle. So it was great to see a film the whose subject matter was stuff close to heart. Yupp:I can't be objective on this one. See it when you can. Sucks you in and is quite authentic.

Ronnie Kasrils, the south african Minister for Intelligence Services, a member of Umkhonto weSizwe (MK), the ANC’s military wing (not a foot soldier!) and Paul Joseph, who left RSA in 1953 with Walter Sisulu, another ANC member (not a foot soldier either!) said it was authentic as well.

"Catch a Fire" was Hollywood (Universal and lead actors), British (Working Title= production co), Australian (Phillip Noyce=Director) and largely South African (cast) (BTW Shawn and Robyn Slovo=producer and screenwriter, daughters of Ruth First and Joe Slovo, but nationality unknown at the moment). Was entertained and $15 million or thereabouts was the cost. Really wished Tunde Kelani had a third or more to make his next film.

Where will Naija film-makers find the money to make the films they should be making??
Where will cretaive people in Naija find the money to do the needful generally?
